Genoa implements specialized support for assisted voluntary migrant return
The City of Genoa has joined the F.A.S.T.E.R. project to strengthen support for Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration. The initiative introduces two specialized operators dedicated to providing information and personalized guidance to migrants who choose to return to their countries of origin.
These professionals will work alongside local social and health services, as well as third-sector organizations, to assist individuals in navigating the national program. The support includes help with documentation, travel logistics, and post-return assistance to facilitate social and economic reintegration. The program specifically aims to assist those in particularly vulnerable or complex situations.
According to Welfare Councilor Cristina Lodi, the process is based entirely on free choice, ensuring that individuals can evaluate their options with full awareness and without pressure. The project is promoted by the International Organization for Migration in collaboration with Anci and Cittalia, utilizing funds from the asylum, migration, and integration fund.
