Genoa official demands 40 million euros for bridge safety

Massimo Ferrante, the municipal assessor for public works in Genoa, has called on the Liguria Region to immediately release 40 million euros to fund the monitoring and maintenance of city infrastructure.

Of the 679 bridges, viaducts, and road decks under the municipality's jurisdiction, more than 50 percent have been classified with a high or medium-high level of attention. While this classification does not imply imminent danger, it indicates a critical need for continuous inspections and potential structural interventions. Ferrante noted that the city has been managing these safety checks primarily through its own resources and urged the regional government to provide the promised financial support to address the city's complex topographical needs.
