Mario Mitaj joins Genoa on loan from Al‑Ittihad
Albanian left‑back Mario Mitaj has completed a move to Serie A side Genoa CFC from Saudi Pro League club Al‑Ittihad. The deal is a one‑year loan costing €2 million, with an option for Genoa to purchase the player for an additional €4.5 million, bringing the total potential fee to about €6.5 million.
Mitaj, 22, has earned 32 caps for the Albania national team and previously played for AEK Athens, Lokomotiv Moscow and Al‑Ittihad, where he made 58 appearances, scored two goals and won the Saudi league and King’s Cup in 2024‑25. Genoa’s director of football Diego Lopez praised his technical ability and mental solidity, while Mitaj said joining Genoa and playing in Serie A had always been his objective.
The transfer was confirmed by Genoa’s official channels and reported by Sky Sport Italia and Fabrizio Romano. Interest had also come from clubs such as Porto and Roma, but Genoa secured the signing before the market window closed.
