Genoa suspect arrested after mob attacks Algerian man who attempted robbery
On 30 July in the Sampierdarena district of Genoa, Italy, a 31‑year‑old Algerian man tried to steal a handbag from an Ecuadorian woman in Piazza Vittorio Veneto. The woman’s husband intervened and the suspect fled the scene.
He was pursued by passers‑by to nearby Piazza Montano, where several bystanders restrained and beat him. Police arrived, took him into custody and later arrested him at the Galliera hospital after he resisted, sprayed pepper spray at the husband and assaulted medical staff. The investigation continues.
