Genoa takes custody of the Peace Torch for one year
The Peace Torch, a symbol of cooperation and brotherhood established by the UN for the International Day of Peace, arrived in Genoa on September 24. Following an official ceremony at Palazzo Tursi, Mayor Silvia Salis took custody of the torch, which will remain in the city for one year.
Organized in collaboration with the international Peace Run relay, the initiative integrates historical memory, the Colors for Peace project—which showcases children's art from over 140 nations—and the unifying power of sport. Local football clubs Sampdoria and Genoa are participating by donating official jerseys to the Colors for Peace association.
The torch's presence will include various community engagements, such as visits to local schools to promote civic education, inclusion, and dialogue among students and athletes.
