Genova driver receives suspended sentence in fatal accident of Sara Marzolino
A security guard has received a suspended sentence of one year and ten months for the fatal road accident that killed 22-year-old Sara Marzolino in Genoa. The plea bargain was accepted by Judge Alice Serra following compensation paid to the victim's family by insurance.
The incident occurred during the night between May 10 and May 11, 2025, at the intersection of via Buozzi and via San Benedetto. Marzolino, a student from Reggio Emilia, was crossing the street outside of a pedestrian crossing when she was struck by the vehicle. The impact propelled her approximately 26 meters into a traffic light pole, causing her death on impact.
Investigations revealed the driver was traveling at approximately 91 km/h in an urban area where the limit is 50 km/h. The defendant was charged with aggravated road homicide due to speeding. Toxicology reports confirmed the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or other substances at the time of the collision.
