Genoa's New Illumina Playground Opens, Boosting Inclusive Urban Sports
The Giardini Giovanni Lamboglia area in Genoa’s Marassi district was transformed into a new “Illumina” playground, part of the national Sport Illumina programme. The inauguration, funded by Sport e Salute under Minister Andrea Abodi and supported by the municipality and Enel, introduced a skate‑park, a multi‑sport court for basketball, volleyball and calisthenics, and a music‑driven “City Beats” soundtrack.
Ambassadors former basketball captain Jack Galanda and paralympic sprinter Alessandro Ossola highlighted the project’s aim of inclusive sport, while CEO Diego Nepi Molineris stressed that the €800 000 investment also seeks to remove economic barriers. The site is the third of 85 planned Illumina playgrounds to be completed across Italy by the end of the year, offering free, accessible facilities for children, teenagers and families.
