Gentaro Ishizuka to hold ‘Glacier Diary’ solo exhibition at KOTARO NUKAGA
Photographer Gentaro Ishizuka will hold a solo exhibition titled ‘Glacier Diary’ at KOTARO NUKAGA in Tennozu from October 31 to December 19, 2026. The exhibition focuses on the artist’s series documenting glaciers that are retreating and collapsing due to climate change.
Key works include six large-scale panoramic photographs, approximately 6 meters wide, which composite multiple shots taken from a sea kayak to reflect the movement of the vessel on the water. The exhibition also features sculptural pieces such as ‘Texture_’, which weaves together strips of photographic prints, and ‘Mass of écriture_’, which transforms printed book spines from polar expedition literature into physical objects. A 4-meter-long kayak made from woven photographic prints will also be unveiled.
On November 28, the gallery will host a screening of the documentary ‘Glacier Diary Chenega Glacier’, directed by Natalie Contaxino and sponsored by Arc'teryx. The film depicts Ishizuka’s 25-day unsupported sea kayaking expedition to photograph the Nerifean Glacier in Alaska. The screening will be accompanied by a talk featuring cultural anthropologist Ryuta Imafuku.
