Gentofte Municipality approves demolition of Arne Jacobsen building
The Gentofte Municipal Council has moved forward with a development plan for the Gentofte Sportspark, which includes the demolition of a clubhouse designed by architect Arne Jacobsen. The project, estimated to cost approximately 500 million DKK, aims to develop a new swimming hall and renovate the existing Ishal 1.
Architectural firm BPP Arkitekter prepared 11 different scenarios for the area's development. While some scenarios proposed preserving, rebuilding, or moving the Jacobsen building, these options were labeled “Anbefales ikke” (Not recommended). The recommended scenario, 7B, involves the demolition of the building, which is the last remaining structure from Jacobsen’s 1936 stadium project.
The local plan is set to enter public consultation and will include provisions for a new swimming hall, a community house, extensions to existing ice halls, and 100 new parking spaces.
