Geochang County to launch Stay Dal-isil rural stay project

Geochang County is set to launch ‘Stay Dal-isil’ at the end of August, a project designed to repurpose long-abandoned rural vacant houses into a community-based stay space. Funded by 1.2 billion won from the Gyeongsangnam-do Local Extinction Response Fund, the project has renovated four houses in Wolgok Village, Nam-myeon.

The facility consists of four distinct buildings: ‘Ap-jip’ and ‘Dwit-jip’ serve as short-term accommodations priced at approximately 150,000 won per night and are bookable via platforms like Airbnb; ‘Eondeok-jip’ is designated for long-term stays to experience rural life; and ‘Majung-jip’ will function as a management and community communication hub.

While preserving the traditional atmosphere of the old Hanok houses, the renovations have added modern amenities such as kitchens, bathrooms, and climate control. The county plans to outsource operations to a private specialist in tourism and marketing. To boost the local economy, the program will integrate with regional attractions like Changpowon and offer agricultural experience programs during harvest seasons.
