Geocito virtual assistant launched to improve seismic housing safety in Peru

Researchers from the Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología (UTEC) have developed Geocito, a WhatsApp-based virtual assistant designed to improve housing safety in Peru. The tool provides free technical information to assist users during the early stages of construction projects, aiming to facilitate decisions that result in more earthquake-resistant homes.

In Peru, where self-construction is a primary method of accessing housing, the lack of technical guidance often leads to structural risks in highly seismic zones. Geocito was recognized in the Citi Foundation’s Global Innovation Challenge 2024 for its ability to integrate technology and education to bridge knowledge gaps for individuals without specialized technical expertise.
