Geoff Shepard petitions DOJ to review Watergate prosecution
Historian and former Nixon aide Geoff Shepard has presented a case to the Department of Justice’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) regarding the Watergate investigation. Shepard argues that the proceedings against former President Richard Nixon involved prosecutorial and Congressional misconduct, characterizing the actions as partisan “lawfare.”
Drawing on research from his book, ‘TheRealWatergate Scandal’, Shepard contends that evidence suggests Nixon was innocent of the alleged cover-up. The proposal calls for DOJ investigators to sanction past prosecutorial misconduct and officially correct the historical record regarding Nixon’s involvement in the 1972 Watergate burglary scandal.
