Geoffrey Kondogbia signs unprecedented pay clause to stay at Olympique de Marseille

Central African midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia has agreed to remain with Olympique de Marseille until June 2027 under a contract that includes a unique performance‑linked salary clause. If he fails to appear in at least 30 matches across all competitions during the 2025‑2026 season, his monthly earnings – roughly €415,000, the highest in the squad – will be reduced by 40%.

The club, coached by Bruno Genesio, is seeking to trim a heavy wage bill and had listed Kondogbia among the high‑earners whose contracts were under review. At 33, Kondogbia has made only 17 appearances so far this season, with injury spells limiting his playing time. Genesio values his experience and versatility, preferring to keep him despite the financial risk.

The agreement, described as a “pact inédit,” marks a rare example of a player accepting a substantial pay cut contingent on match participation, highlighting Marseille’s financial strategy and Kondogbia’s willingness to stay at the club.
