Geoffrey Nice claims Kosovo Specialist Chambers has political objectives
British lawyer and former International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia prosecutor Geoffrey Nice has suggested that the Kosovo Specialist Chambers may have been influenced by political objectives. Nice stated that since the publication of the Dick Marty Report, there have been indications that the court was directed by unclear political goals rather than purely legal ones.
Commenting on the recent verdict involving Hashim Thaçi and others, Nice noted that the currently released judgment is merely a summary. He argued that the document makes categorical claims without identifying the specific evidence linking the defendants to the proven crimes.
Nice also highlighted that much of the case material was handled in closed sessions, which complicates a full analysis. He cautioned that a complete, redacted version of the judgment may take a long time to become available, and due to the volume of evidence presented in private, a version accessible to the general public might not be released for decades.
