Geolier concert crash kills driver in Sicily tunnel

After the Geolier concert at Messina's Franco Scoglio stadium, a Fiat 16 mm collided with a stalled bus inside the Taormina tunnel on the A18 Messina‑Catania highway around 02:30 local time. The bus had suffered a mechanical failure and was stopped in the travel lane while attempting to reach an emergency area.

The impact killed the 40‑year‑old driver instantly. His young daughter, who was in the car, was rescued by emergency services and taken to the Policlinico in Catania, where she was reported to be in serious but not life‑threatening condition. Firefighters, road police and highway‑authority crews sealed off the tunnel temporarily; the road reopened to traffic early the next morning.
