Geological experts in Turkey focus on ethics and urban risk management
In Turkey, geological experts and local authorities are emphasizing the importance of scientific ethics and geological data in urban planning and disaster management. Meltem Akdoğan, Vice President of the TMMOB Chamber of Geological Engineers Adana Branch, highlighted the significance of International Geoethics Day, noting that issues such as climate change, natural disasters, and unplanned urbanization require the ethical application of scientific knowledge.
In Bursa, Osmangazi Municipality has signed a protocol with the TMMOB Chamber of Geological Engineers South Marmara Branch to document the city's geological structure and natural disaster risks. This collaboration will culminate in a scientific panel featuring academic experts. The findings will be compiled into a final report intended to support urban planning and disaster risk management policies, with the results planned for publication as part of the 700th-anniversary celebrations of the conquest of Bursa.
