Geomdan-gu launches food security program to support vulnerable residents

Geomdan-gu in Incheon is operating the ‘Geunyang Dream’ food security project to provide food and daily necessities to residents facing economic hardship. The initiative, part of a Ministry of Health and Welfare program, aims to support individuals struggling due to sudden unemployment, illness, or income reduction.

To reduce barriers to access, the program allows residents to receive aid without complex application procedures or the burden of proving income. The service is operated in connection with the Geomdan-gu Food Market, located at 19 Wanjeong-ro 188beon 1-gil, and is available every Tuesday through Thursday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Beyond providing physical goods, the project serves as a tool to identify households in welfare blind spots. During consultations, staff assess the living conditions of users and connect those in need of further assistance to local administrative welfare centers for customized services, such as emergency welfare or basic livelihood security.
