Bosnia and Herzegovina political and security developments
At a United Nations roundtable, Bosnia and Herzegovina's Ambassador to the UN, Zlatko Lagumdžija, stated that citizens are more invested in peace and cross-community cooperation than political leaders suggest. He noted that while grassroots collaboration across ethnic and political lines is productive and prevalent, structural barriers prevent this cooperation from driving meaningful institutional reform.
In a separate diplomatic meeting, Presidency Chairman Denis Bećirović met with French Ambassador Kévin Thuillier to discuss bilateral relations, European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and regional stability. The discussions emphasized France's support for Bosnia and Herzegovina's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Additionally, the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) has commenced a five-day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina to assess progress in combating terrorism and addressing online radicalization. The mission involves 46 institutions and focuses on legislative frameworks, border security, and the reintegration of individuals returning from foreign conflict zones.
Meanwhile, infrastructure recovery efforts are underway in the Vareš municipality following the October 2024 floods. Funded by the European Union and implemented by the UNDP and IOM, projects include the reconstruction of a 40-meter retaining wall in Ljevarska street and the repair of a bridge in the Berbići settlement.
