Geopolitical theory links Third Rome prophecy and Greater Israel

A geopolitical theory circulating on social media and alternative Western media links the ‘Third Rome’ prophecy, the concept of ‘Greater Israel,’ and the potential partition of Turkey. The theory gained traction following an interview between Chinese-Canadian commentator Jiang Xueqin and Alex Jones, in which Xueqin suggested that these narratives converge on the division of Turkey and a possible cooperation between Russia and Israel.

The ‘Third Rome’ concept originates from 16th-century religious thought, positioning Moscow as the successor to the Roman and Byzantine Empires. While this idea has been utilized by Russian nationalist and Eurasianist circles, current official Russian policy toward Turkey is characterized by pragmatic ‘competitive cooperation’ in energy, arms, and regional competition in Syria and the Caucasus.

The ‘Greater Israel’ concept refers to the biblical phrase ‘from the Nile to the Euphrates,’ which is used by certain religious groups to describe territorial ambitions.
