Georg Danzer honored on 80th birthday
Austrian singer-songwriter Georg Danzer would have been 80 years old on October 7. To honor the Austropop pioneer, a commemorative plaque is being unveiled in Vienna-Meidling at Gaudenzdorfer Gürtel 47, the location where the artist grew up.
Danzer was a central figure in the 1970s Austrian dialect music movement. He achieved significant solo success in 1975 with the single ‘Jö schau’, which spent 20 weeks on the charts. His work was characterized by a blend of wit, poetry, and social criticism, often addressing themes of social injustice and the lives of outsiders.
Throughout his career, Danzer collaborated with various artists, including Wolfgang Ambros, Marianne Mendt, and Erika Pluhar. He was also a member of the group Austria 3 alongside Ambros and Rainhard Fendrich. His musical legacy includes influential albums such as ‘Feine Leute’ and ‘Notausgang’, as well as a successful breakthrough in Germany with the 1981 album ‘Ruhe vor dem Sturm’.
