Georg Eisenreich resigns as Bavarian Minister of Justice
Georg Eisenreich, the Bavarian Minister of Justice, has announced his intention to resign from his post. According to reports, the decision is voluntary and driven by personal considerations as he seeks new professional challenges outside of politics.
In addition to his ministerial role, the 55-year-old CSU politician plans to step down as a member of the Bavarian State Parliament following the 2028 legislative period and intends to relinquish his chairmanship of the CSU in Munich next summer. Eisenreich has been a member of the state parliament since 2003.
His tenure was marked by a significant scandal involving allegations of prisoner abuse at the Augsburg-Gablingen correctional facility. While Eisenreich survived the immediate political fallout of the incident, the scandal remained a major issue during his time in office.
