George Clooney identifies potential 2028 Democratic candidates

Actor and prominent Democratic fundraiser George Clooney has ruled out seeking political office himself, citing his age as a primary reason. Speaking at The Future of Creativity event in Venice, Italy, the 65-year-old stated he would ‘absolutely not’ enter a race, emphasizing a need for ‘young voices that are coming up with new ideas.’

Regarding the 2028 presidential cycle, Clooney identified Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff as a figure of significant interest. He also expressed respect for Illinois Governor Jay Pritzker and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, though he noted he would withhold formal endorsements until after the upcoming November midterm elections.

Clooney’s comments on age echo his July 2024 op-ed in which he urged then-President Joe Biden to step aside from the presidential race due to age-related concerns. Clooney noted his preference for supporting candidates younger than himself, stating, ‘I would be more than excited to support anyone but not people who are my age or older.’
