George Enescu celebrations feature international competition and major exhibitions in Romania
Romania is hosting several major cultural events dedicated to composer George Enescu in 2026. The 20th anniversary edition of the George Enescu International Competition will run from August 23 to September 19. The event, which features competitions in violin, cello, piano, and composition, will be broadcast by TVR. The opening concert is scheduled for August 23 at the Romanian Athenaeum, led by Maestro Cristian Măcelaru and featuring 2024 winners.
In conjunction with these celebrations, two significant exhibitions are being held. The National Archives in Bucharest is hosting ‘George Enescu. Memoria creatorului’ from August 19 to September 20, marking the 145th anniversary of the composer's birth. The exhibition includes personal documents, letters, and photographs.
Additionally, the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant will host the ‘Tescani 50’ retrospective exhibition starting August 26. This exhibition showcases visual art created by artists who participated in the Tescani creation camps over the past 50 years, celebrating the artistic legacy of the region.
