George Enescu International Competition 2026 Sets Record with 819 Applicants from 55 Nations
The 2026 edition of the George Enescu International Competition received a total of 819 applications, the highest number ever recorded, representing a 23% rise over the previous edition. Participants came from 55 countries, making it the most internationally diverse contest in its history.
Of the applications, 756 were for the core competition sections—violin, cello, piano and composition—while 63 entries enrolled in a newly expanded international master‑class programme involving 18 countries. The largest national contingents were China (152), South Korea (134), Romania (65), the United States (64) and Japan (50). Live performance rounds are scheduled in Bucharest between 23 August and 19 September, with finals accompanied by the National Radio Orchestra and the George Enescu Philharmonic.
