George Floyd’s family demands accounting of GoFundMe donations
Several members of George Floyd’s family are demanding a formal accounting of the millions of dollars raised through GoFundMe following his death in May 2020. Siblings Zsazsa, LaTonya, and Rodney Floyd sent a letter to their brother, Philonise Floyd, requesting transaction histories, tax filings, and financial records related to the George Floyd Memorial GoFundMe campaign.
Reports indicate that the platform saw more than $19 million in donations. The siblings claim they have not received their fair share of the funds and are seeking transparency regarding how decisions were made and how the money was distributed. The letter grants Philonise 20 days to provide the requested documentation and an explanation of the fund's expenditures.
The family has also reportedly reached out to attorney Ben Crump, whose law firm is associated with the management of the GoFundMe, but they have not yet received a response. Previously, Philonise Floyd stated the funds were intended to cover funeral expenses, counseling, travel for court proceedings, and support for George Floyd’s children.
