George Friedman identifies Poland as a rising regional power

American geopolitical strategist George Friedman has identified Poland as a rising regional power, noting that the war in Ukraine has shifted the center of European security toward the east. During a discussion at the Sobieski Institute, Friedman argued that Russia is currently weaker than Western perceptions have suggested, describing it as a state that has failed to achieve its strategic goals in Ukraine. He noted that Russia's inability to conquer Ukraine within the expected timeframe demonstrates significant military limitations.

Friedman emphasized that while Poland is not a global superpower, it has become a critical regional power and a primary strategic interest for the United States. He suggested that U.S. military presence in Europe is shifting toward Poland as maintaining forces in Germany becomes less strategic.

Additionally, the discussion highlighted the potential of the Three Seas Initiative to serve as a platform for economic and infrastructural strength in Central and Eastern Europe, provided the region can develop sufficient domestic capital to fund strategic projects.
