George Johnson named 2026 Writer in Residence at TNRL
Dr. George Johnson, a Professor Emeritus at Thompson Rivers University, has been named the 2026 Writer in Residence at the Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL). His residency is scheduled to run from September through December 2026.
Johnson, a longtime Kamloops resident, has a background in creative writing and modern literature, having taught at Thompson Rivers University for 34 years. His body of work includes screenplays, stage plays, children’s literature, and cultural studies. He is a recipient of the 2019 YMCA Peace Medal for his contributions to social justice and environmental issues.
During his tenure, Johnson will assist writers in exploring storytelling techniques, strengthening their craft, and navigating the publication process. The residency includes various free community activities, such as a meet-and-greet on September 15 at the North Kamloops Library, writing workshops, and one-on-one consultations.
