Khalil Mack trade rumors intensify ahead of NFL deadline

As the NFL trade deadline approaches, speculation has intensified regarding a potential move involving Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher Khalil Mack. San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch confirmed that tight end George Kittle specifically inquired about the possibility of acquiring Mack.

Reports from The Athletic indicate that Mack, currently playing on a one-year, $18 million contract, does not have a no-trade clause. This provides the Chargers with significant leverage should they decide to become sellers. The Chargers currently hold an 0-5 record, making a trade a viable business decision to acquire draft picks.

For the 49ers, acquiring a veteran pass rusher like Mack could bolster a defensive front currently facing injuries, including to Nick Bosa. While Lynch noted he is actively communicating with counterparts across the league to assess the market, no formal trade has been initiated.
