George Kittle set to return for 49ers Week 1 opener
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle has been removed from the team's injury report and is expected to play in the Week 1 season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.
Kittle's return follows a remarkable eight-month recovery from a ruptured Achilles tendon sustained during the Wild Card round victory against the Philadelphia Eagles. While the typical recovery timeframe for such an injury ranges from nine to twelve months, Kittle has returned ahead of schedule.
During his rehabilitation, Kittle was noted for intensive training, including deadlifting 665 pounds. His return provides a significant boost to the 49ers' offense and quarterback Brock Purdy. While Kittle is expected to see a significant snap count, there are questions regarding whether head coach Kyle Shanahan may limit his playing time initially.
In other roster news, the 49ers have ruled out defensive tackle Alfred Collins for the upcoming matchup.
