George Lucas reveals dyslexia and discusses walking away from Star Wars

George Lucas has revealed that he is dyslexic, noting that the condition went undiagnosed during his childhood in Modesto, California. In a conversation with CBS Sunday Morning, Lucas described himself as a “consummate underachiever” during his school years, struggling with writing and academic subjects while finding more interest in comic books and adventure novels.

Additionally, Lucas discussed his decision to step away from the “Star Wars” franchise. He stated that he had prepared treatments for three more films—which would have served as his versions of Episodes VII, VIII, and IX—but chose to retire and focus on building his museum instead. He noted that at age 82, there is a limit to what he can accomplish, and described the decision to let go of the franchise as “very, very painful.”
