George Lucas to voice a character in Illumination’s “Minions & Monsters”

Legendary filmmaker George Lucas, creator of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, will provide a voice performance in Illumination’s upcoming animated feature Minions & Monsters. The cameo was announced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri in a Collider interview, where he explained that Lucas is a longtime fan of Illumination’s Despicable Me movies and especially the Minions. Meledandri said the idea for a new character sparked during development and the studio quickly secured Lucas’s participation, with recording taking place in Paris.

Minions & Monsters is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on 1 July 2026 (UAE and other territories will see the film on the same date). The film is set in 1920s Hollywood, where the Minions attempt to make their own monster movie. The voice cast includes Jesse Eisenberg, Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges, Zoey Deutch, Trey Parker and Phil La Marr, alongside Lucas. Meledandri added that Lucas has already expressed interest in appearing in future Minions projects.
