George Michael estate sues friend over unreleased ‘Trojan Souls’ footage

The late singer George Michael’s estate has filed a lawsuit in London’s Intellectual Property and Enterprise Court against childhood friend Andros Georgiou. Georgiou, who filmed around 90 minutes of video from the 1992‑93 duet project “Trojan Souls,” made the footage available on a paid streaming site in 2026, charging £4.99 for 48‑hour access.

“Trojan Souls,” which would have featured duets with artists such as Elton John, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson, Sade, Seal and Bryan Ferry, was never released after Michael withdrew from the sessions following personal loss. The estate alleges that Georgiou’s distribution infringes its copyright and royalty rights, seeking an injunction and damages.

The case highlights ongoing disputes over the control of unreleased music archives and the commercial exploitation of legacy artists’ material.
