George Michael honored with musical tribute at MTV VMAs
At the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, artists performed a multi-song tribute to the late pop star George Michael. The ceremony, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, honored the singer nearly a decade after his death in 2016.
Performances included Sombr, who wore Michael’s original leather jacket from the 'Faith' era while singing 'Faith' and 'Father Figure'; Raye, who performed 'I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)'; and Teddy Swims, who sang 'Careless Whisper'. The tribute concluded with an unannounced appearance by Adam Lambert, who performed 'Freedom 90'.
The tribute coincides with upcoming projects celebrating Michael's legacy, including the release of the live album 'The Faith Tour' on November 6 and the worldwide theatrical release of the film 'George Michael: The Faith Tour' on December 11.
