George Michael named greatest music icon in Smooth Radio poll

George Michael has been named the ‘greatest music icon of all time’ by Smooth Radio listeners. This marks the fourth consecutive year the former Wham! singer has topped the station’s annual Smooth Icons Top 100 poll.

In the rankings, Michael placed ahead of Michael Jackson, who took second place, and the British band Queen, who placed third. Other artists in the top five include Whitney Houston and the Swedish group Abba. The remainder of the top ten featured Elton John, Wham!, Phil Collins, Celine Dion, and Elvis Presley.

George Michael Entertainment, the official estate of the singer, expressed delight at the result, stating that Michael would have been ‘immensely proud’ and grateful for the continued loyalty of his fans.
