AI scams exploit Swedish celebrities for investment fraud

The Internet Foundation (Internetstiftelsen) has issued a warning regarding a rise in sophisticated AI-driven scams targeting individuals in Sweden. Fraudsters are using artificial intelligence to create deepfake videos and cloned voices of well-known public figures to promote fraudulent investment schemes.

Prominent figures such as Zlatan Ibrahimović, Leif GW Persson, and Elisabeth Svantesson have had their likenesses and voices exploited in these deceptive advertisements. These scams often appear in social media feeds or mimic legitimate news articles and television broadcasts to build trust. Once users click on these links, they are directed to professional-looking fake websites designed to harvest personal information, such as phone numbers, to facilitate further fraudulent sales.
