George Russell demands Mercedes resolve car upgrade issues

George Russell has called on Mercedes to resolve technical issues with their car upgrades as the 2026 Formula 1 season enters its final six race weekends. While Mercedes and drivers Russell and Kimi Antonelli dominated much of the season with 11 Grand Prix wins and four Sprint Race victories, the team's momentum has shifted.

Following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Red Bull and Max Verstappen have regained dominance, with Verstappen securing victories in both Malaysia and Singapore. Mercedes attempted to extend their lead with a new upgrade package at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, but the components caused technical difficulties. This forced Russell to revert to a previous car specification for the Singapore Grand Prix, while Antonelli continued using the new upgrades.

Russell stated that the team's immediate goal must be to ‘get on top of these updates’ to regain their competitive edge against Red Bull.
