George Seferis academic event held at Greek Embassy in London

An academic event dedicated to the life and work of Nobel laureate George Seferis was held on September 22, 2026, at the Greek Embassy Residence in London. Hosted by the Greek Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ioannis Tsautos, the gathering commemorated the 55th anniversary of the poet and diplomat's death.

The event featured the presentation of the Greek reissue of Sir Roderick Beaton’s biography, ‘George Seferis: Waiting for the Angel’. A significant highlight was the exhibition of the original manuscript of the poem ‘The Sterna’, which returned to London nearly a century after its writing. For the first time, Seferis’s Nobel Prize medal and diploma were also transported outside of Greece for public viewing.

Attendees included academics, diplomats, and cultural figures, such as Dr. Giorgos Manginis of the Benaki Museum, Daphne Krinou, and Professor Ruth Padel from the University of Cambridge. The University of Patras was notably represented at the event.
