Approximately 10,000 visitors are expected to gather at Padang Kota Lama in George Town for the National Day celebrations on August 31.
To manage the crowds and ensure safety, Northeast District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad stated that 368 police officers will be deployed. Major roads around the George Town city center will undergo phased closures, with full road closures scheduled to begin as early as 2:00 AM on August 31 to facilitate the parade contingents and manage traffic congestion.
Specific areas affected by closures include Jalan Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah, Jalan Padang Kota Lama, Lebuh Light, and several other major streets in the vicinity. The police will also deploy the Jam Squad from the traffic division to mitigate potential traffic jams.
