Georgetown men's soccer defeats Marquette 3-0 in Big East opener

No. 9 Georgetown defeated Marquette University 3-0 in their Big East men's soccer opener at Shaw Field in Washington, D.C. The victory improves Georgetown's record to 6-1-1 (1-0-0 BIG EAST), while the loss brings Marquette to 5-2-1 (0-1-0 BIG EAST).

Georgetown opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Matthew Van Horn scored off a cross from Mateo Ponce Ocampo. After Marquette goalkeeper Cameron Simpson made four saves to keep the deficit at one during the first half, Mitchell Baker extended the lead in the 73rd minute. Noah Strellnauer added a third goal shortly after to secure the win.

The loss snapped a three-match winning streak for the Golden Eagles. Both of Marquette's losses this season have come against ranked opponents, including No. 7 Wisconsin.
