Georgi Georgiev-Gets centenary celebrated in Bulgaria

Bulgaria is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of renowned actor Georgi Georgiev-Gets through a series of commemorative events titled ‘The Memory Remains...’. The program, scheduled for October 2, 3, and 5, will take place in Elena, Razpopovtsi, and Sofia.

In Elena, the celebrations include art exhibitions and the establishment of a new award named after the actor to honor excellence in film and theater. In his birthplace of Razpopovtsi, events will feature lectures on his life and creative work, alongside recitals and photo exhibitions. The centenary program will conclude at the National Theatre in Sofia with an exhibition tracing his professional journey and most significant cinematic roles.

Georgi Georgiev-Gets, born in 1926, was a prominent figure in Bulgarian theater and cinema from the second half of the 20th century. He was a long-time member of the National Theatre troupe from 1953 to 1991. He is widely recognized for his roles in classic films such as ‘The Peasant with the Wheel’, ‘The Eighth’, and ‘There is Nothing Better Than Bad Weather’.
