Georgi Gospodinov named among Nobel Prize in Literature favorites

Bulgarian author Georgi Gospodinov has been named among seven writers considered worthy of the Nobel Prize in Literature by the German media outlet Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ).

In a selection of candidates, FAZ highlighted Gospodinov alongside authors such as Gerald Murnane of Australia, Gabriela Adameșteanu of Romania, Aka Morchiladze of Georgia, Michel Houellebecq of France, Hoda Barakat of Lebanon, and Colm Tóibín of Ireland.

Sandra Kegel, cultural editor for FAZ, praised Gospodinov as one of the most original voices in international literature, noting his ability to explore Europe with 'poetic virtuosity and melancholic irony.' The publication specifically cited his novel 'Time Shelter' as a 'stunning fantasy' and noted the diversity of his work, which spans prose, poetry, opera librettos, and screenplays. Other mentioned works include 'The Physics of Sorrow' and '8 Minutes and 19 Seconds.'
