Georgia and Clemson cancel future four-game football series

The Georgia Bulldogs and Clemson Tigers have mutually agreed to cancel a planned four-game football series scheduled to take place between 2029 and 2033. The cancellation was formalized in a termination document signed by Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks and Clemson athletic director Graham Neff on March 12.

By reaching a mutual agreement, both universities avoided liquidated damages that would have ranged from $1 million to $1.5 million per game. The decision comes as major conferences, including the SEC and ACC, transition to nine-game conference schedules. This shift has prompted many Power Four programs to reevaluate long-term nonconference commitments to manage schedule density and postseason implications.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney expressed disappointment regarding the decision, describing it as a “sign of the times” in the evolving landscape of college football. The original series was intended to feature matchups at Memorial Stadium and Sanford Stadium, but the programs will now focus on their expanded conference rotations.
