Georgia Angelopoulou suffers serious knee injury during Eurovolley quarter-final

Greek volleyball player Georgia Angelopoulou suffered a serious knee injury during the CEV Women's European Volleyball Championship quarter-final against Serbia in Brno. The incident occurred early in the second set when the 21-year-old athlete collapsed on the court following a collision and a difficult landing, causing visible distress to players, staff, and spectators.

Angelopoulou was unable to walk and was transported from the arena on a stretcher. Following an initial CT scan and the application of a specialized splint, she was taken to a hospital. The Greek team reported that she will travel to Athens for further testing to determine the full extent of the damage, noting that her recovery could potentially take up to 12 months.

The injury occurred during a historic campaign for the Greek national team, which had reached the quarter-finals for the first time. Despite the emotional disruption, Serbia won the match 3-0 to advance to the semi-finals.
