Georgia Bureau of Investigation probes officer-involved shooting in Dublin

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Fire Tower Road in Dublin, Georgia, on October 20, 2026.

According to preliminary reports, a Laurens County Sheriff’s Office deputy approached 36-year-old Charles Daniel McMahan while he was riding a bicycle to question him regarding a burglary investigation. McMahan allegedly fled on foot, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, McMahan reportedly pointed an unidentified object at the deputy, prompting the officer to fire his weapon.

McMahan was not struck by gunfire, and neither the deputy nor the suspect sustained injuries. Following the encounter, McMahan was taken into custody by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office on charges unrelated to the shooting incident. The GBI is conducting an independent investigation and will provide the case file to the Dublin Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review upon completion.
