Georgia construction industry initiatives focus on workforce and safety

The Associated General Contractors of Georgia (AGC Georgia) has announced the dates for its 2026 Skills Challenge Series. This workforce development event will take place across eight regions in Georgia, including Gainesville, Rome, Perry, Columbus, Moultrie, Marietta, Statesboro, and Augusta.

Students will compete in various trades such as carpentry, electrical, masonry, plumbing, and welding, with additional categories like HVAC and heavy equipment operations available at select locations. The series aims to provide hands-on experience and connect students with industry professionals to promote high-paying construction careers.

Separately, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Atlanta-East Area Office and the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Georgia Chapter Alliance released an annual report regarding their collaborative safety partnership. The alliance focuses on providing training and guidance to reduce workplace hazards, specifically targeting risks associated with trenching, scaffolding, confined spaces, falls, and electrical safety.
