Georgia Democratic Gov. Candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms Proposes Universal Pre‑K Funding via Casino Gambling

Democratic nominee for Georgia governor Keisha Lance Bottoms says her campaign will expand the state’s pre‑kindergarten program to cover every 4‑year‑old who wants a spot. The current system serves about 60% of eligible children, leaving long waiting lists; in some counties fewer than half of 4‑year‑olds have access.

Bottoms’ plan would finance the expansion by legalizing casino gambling, adding roughly $330 million to the pre‑K budget – a 57% increase over the 2026 level – and aiming for 75% or higher enrollment. She argues the funding would come without raising taxes, creating a dedicated, recurring source for childcare.

Parents such as Blake Osborne, who faced $1,600 a month for private pre‑K before his daughter secured a spot on a state waiting list, say “If it’s universal, that means there should be a spot for every kid.” Bottoms added, “As a mother of four, I know every child deserves a strong start in school. Families face long pre‑K waiting lists, and the program reaches only about 60% of eligible children.”
