Georgia Democrats Convene in Savannah to Boost Keisha Lance Bottoms' Gubernatorial Bid

More than 1,000 Georgia Democrats gathered in Savannah for a daylong convention, pep rally and strategy session ahead of the November 2026 elections. The event focused on electing Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms as governor for the first time in a generation and on re‑electing U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff.

State party chair Charlie Bailey said the gathering reflected "winds of change" driven by concerns over rising living costs and job insecurity. The party announced plans to staff 30 field offices, hire 60 full‑time organizers and add 100 staffers to support candidates across the ballot.

Senators Ossoff and Raphael Warnock were absent, citing scheduling conflicts. Bottoms, who won 58 % of the primary vote, faces billionaire Republican rival Rick Jackson, a health‑care executive who spent more than $107 million of his own money in the GOP primary.
