Georgia expands diplomatic ties with Central Asian nations

Georgia is intensifying its diplomatic and economic engagement with Central Asian nations, marking a shift toward coordinated institutionalization in the region. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has conducted several high-profile visits, including becoming the first post-Soviet Georgian leader to visit Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Strategic partnership agreements have been signed with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The latter visit by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was the first by an Uzbek head of state to Georgia in 23 years. These developments are driven by the growing strategic importance of the Middle Corridor, a trade route connecting East Asia to Europe that utilizes Georgian ports such as Batumi and Poti to bypass Russian territory.
