Georgia Expands School Phone Ban to High School Grades

Georgia's Distraction-Free Education Act, enacted in 2025, prohibited personal electronic devices for students in grades K‑8 and will be extended to cover grades 9‑12 beginning with the 2027‑28 school year.

DeKalb County School District (DCSD) in Georgia has declared all of its schools phone‑free for the 2026‑27 academic year, using lockers and Yondr pouches. The district’s "Disconnect to Reconnect" program, launched earlier, reduced cyberbullying and discipline infractions by 17%, according to Dr. Darnell Logan, Director of Student Relations.
