Georgia gubernatorial candidates focus on healthcare affordability

Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson is centering his Georgia campaign on economic opportunity and affordability. During a recent rally in Columbus, Jackson, a healthcare executive and billionaire, emphasized these themes to appeal to voters across party lines. He was introduced by U.S. Senator Rick Scott.

Healthcare costs have emerged as a significant issue in the race. Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms has advocated for Medicaid expansion to address rising costs, while Jackson argues for increased access to commercial insurance.

A University of Georgia survey of approximately 1,000 likely voters indicates that healthcare affordability is a concern for a substantial portion of the electorate. While 54% of Democrats and 38% of Republicans expressed worry regarding monthly premiums, the survey found that nearly half of Democrats and a quarter of Republicans reported skipping or delaying medical care in the past year due to costs.
